SOGS Summer Programme 2016

Saturday  May 14th  2pm - Malc and Jude Mollart's garden, 'Avocet'. Plealey, Nr Pontesbury.
Following Malc and Jude's talk to us in November on Gardening for Wildlife this is our chance to see how they do this in their own garden which we will be visiting just two days after their garden is open for the National garden Scheme. Please note there is a charge of £3.50 per person, which goes to the NGS, and a furhter £1.50 per person for tea and cakes. As parking near the house is restricted please can we car share as much as possible.
Directions:- Small village north east of Pontesbury, just off the A488. If coming from Shrewsbury take turning off the bypass on to A488, signed to Minsterley & Bishops Castle. On outskirts of Pontesbury/Pontesford immediately past first 30mph sign take left hand turn (which signed to Plealey & Longden). Plealey is about a mile up this road.
Follow the road in to the village. Avocet is on the right hand side not long after you come in to the village, in the middle of a line of modern houses. Parking is in the road outside the house and is restricted so please car share.

Wednesday June 22nd, 6pm - Buzzy Bee Nursery, 14 Waterloo, Wem SY13 2PX

Evening visit to a plant nursery which has gardens, a meadow walk and habitats to attract butterflies (and presumably bees too). There will be a small charge for refreshments.
Directions :- Nursery is a few miles north of Wem. Take the B5476 out of Wem, signed to Whitchurch & Tilstock. Turn left off the main road at the Edstaston Church signpost. Then take the first right and the nursery is approx 1mile down this lane.

Sunday July 17th, 9.30am - Trentham Gardens, Stoke on Trent.
Our annual summer outing to visit the award winning gardens which have been described by Alan Titchmarsh as "one of the Uk's must-see gardens". Amongsth the many new features are a new wild flower planting scheme designed by Nigel Dunnett (creator of the Olympic Paark wildflower planting scheme); Rivers of Grass & a Floral Labrynth designed by Piet Oudolf, the restored and relivened Italian garden by Tom Stuart Smith & a lakeside walk around a Capability Brown landscape which has been specially restored to mark his 300th anniversary. Friday & Saturday August 12th & 13th - Shrewsbury Flower Show

Sunday September 11th, 11am - 4pm - Activities day at Berrignton Hall, Berrignton, SY5 6HA with bring and share lunch. A chance to have a go at various activities demonstrated by SOGS members, details of which will be available nearer the time. There will also be a guided tour of the hall's wood fuel boiler & other renewable energy systems and Graham will be showing us the progress made in the garden and polytunnels since our visit last year.
Directions:- A few miles south east of Shrewsbury, near Cross Houses. If coming from Shrewsbury direction take A458 signed to Bridgnorth. Take right hand turning just as you come in to Cross Houses, immediately after the long brick house on right hand side and before you pass the garage. Short distance down this road take first right turn,
just before Berrington village, Berrington Hall is a short distance down this road on the right.

Sunday October 2nd 2pm - visit to SOGS members Henry Hunstone and Julia Bourne's garden
at 40 Dolfgoch, Porth y Waen, SY10 8LN to learn how to make useful thigs out of old pallets. The pallets will be supplies but please bring cakes. Parking is in a large layby on the main road (A495) a short distance form the house. Tel no is 01691 238812
