Sunday May 17th:  Activities day at Berrington Hall SY5 6HA
New and potential members especially welcome. Start 2pm

Tour the gardens and grounds which are particularly interesting.
Activities to participate in, flax spinning, wool spinning, making handles for tools.
Tea and cakes.             Chat and smiles with friendly people.
See the Chairman having a wobbly moment.
 

Sunday June 14th: Oak Farm, Ditton Priors WV16 6SS
2.30pm start. A farm and outdoor education centre for adults with learning disabilities. NB cakes and tea to be provided by the Centre (for which there will be a charge), as this will be a cookery project for the students.

Sunday July 12th: Bob and Sonjia Prendergast's garden, The Orchard, Halfway House, Erdington, WV16 5JP
Start 2pm.  A 2 acre field that is developing into an orchard, fruit garden etc.
From A458 Bridgenorth road take the A4555 Highley road. At outskirts of Eardingley, take Halfway House Lane on right for half to three quarters mile. Private letter box with name 'The Orchard' - park just after that.

Friday and Saturday 14th and 15th August: Shrewsbury Flower Show

Saturday October 3rd: Bowbrook Community Allotments, Shrewsbury SY3 5BT.

2pm start. half a mile from Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. From A5 Shrewsbury bypass take B4386 following signs for hospital. Allotments situated half a milw along B4386 (Mytton Oak Rd) on right.


SOGS AGM will be on Wednesday 1st April at 7.30pm. at St.Chad's Hall in Shrewsbury. It is also 25 years since Shropshire Organic Gardeners began, we are still going strong, and our Chairman feels we should celebrate in style! So the business side of the AGM will be very short, and the rest of the evening will be given over to 25th birthday celebrations.
We plan a bring and share supper, with music, merriment and also cake......
We would like to welcome as many people as possible - past, present, new members, potential members to the celebrations - everyone is welcome to join us.

Sunday 18th May, 2 pm. Visit to Crabapple Community, Berrington Hall, near Cross Houses, Shrewsbury, SY5 6HA. The grid reference is SJ525075. Bring cakes.

Sunday15th June, 1.30pm*. Visit to Apley Walled Garden, Norton, Shropshire, TF11 9EF.  Entrance fee paid by Sogs.
Come for a tour of Apley Walled Gardens, predated 1775, which has recently come back in to production. The gardens now grow many rare varieties of vegetables which are no longer commonly seen, and stock Apley Farm Shop. *Note earlier start time. Teashop on site.

Sunday July 13th, Annual Coach Trip, Arley Arboretum and garden, near Bewdley. Free for members.  Meet 9.50am at Abbey Car Park, Shrewsbury. Cafe on site or picnic.  Book with Ann 01743 363 282. Friends welcome if space.

Sunday 7th September, 2 pm. Visit to Sue Stickland and Dave Chester-Master’s garden, Rose Cottage, Cefn Mawr, Newtown, Wales.  Bring cakes. There is a village festival taking place on the same day which Sue has suggested we might like to visit beforehand.

5th October, 2.30 pm, Visit members Anne Bartles-Smith’s and David and Susan Simpson’s gardens, numbers 14 and 18 Vane Road, Shrewsbury. Bring cakes. Very limited parking in Vane Road; parking available in Luciefeld Rd., South Hermitage and Oakley St.

SOGS Summer 2013 Programme



October 13th(Sun) 2.00pm – visit Siobhan’s two fields and new house , at Habberley, nr Pontesbury. SOG’s advice wanted on options of how to manage two overgrown fields and a large garden. Stream and new pond. Siobhan will provide some cakes but please note they are usually the last to be eaten!

May 5th & 6th Attingham Plant Fair – SOGs stall

May 23rd (Thurs) 6.30pm Ford Hall Farm, Market Drayton.
 Guided walk around farm with Charlotte Hollins to see the latest developments and new projects. Tea and cakes in the café supplied by the farm, cost £4.50 per person. Please note early start time (to fit tea & cakes in at end!)

June 16th (Sun) 2.00pm Lower Wallop Farm, near Westbury. 
Approx 10 miles south west of Shrewsbury. Guided tour of an organic mixed farm. Beef, sheep, pigs, rare breeds, environmental enhancements and species rich fields. Please note we will be walking around the farm, not driven. Please bring cakes. See www.lowerwallop.co.uk for more info on the farm.

July 21st (Sun) Annual coach trip to Sarvari Research Trust, near Bangor. 
The trust breeds blight resistant strains of potatoes using time honoured non GM techniques. They have bred seven varieties of Sarpo potatoes, some of which we sold for the first time this year at our potato day. They rely on support from individuals, friends and “crowd funding” to continue their work. Guided tour by research director David Shaw. Option to have meal in village café afterwards or picnic on the beach. Please note prior booking by July 1st essential for this trip.
