SOGS Summer/Autumn Programme 2010

 
June 12th Annual free (for members) day out to the gardens of  Plas Tan y Bwlch, Snowdonia National Park Environmental Studies Centre.  The coach will leave from the Abbey Foregate car park at 9am.  Travel time approx 2 hours.  Please bring packed lunch.  There is ONLY tea/coffee machine at the centre.

Limited places PLEASE BOOK by phone or email as soon as possible.

June 16th 7-9pm Visit to Oakedge Nursery and Gleanings rural study centre, Minsterley, set up by John and Yvonne on the their 14 acre small holding.  The nursery grows cottage garden plants, vegetables, salads, herbs, fruit etc.  Wildlife walks and study centre.

July 25th 2-4pm Visit to Bowbrook Allotment Community Shrewsbury, a new council allotment site opened in May 2009, with 68 plots (all taken) and around 40 on the waiting list already.  Learn more about the process involved in getting more allotments, meet committee members, hear the future plans and see the wildlife garden.             Please bring a mug for a cup of tea - made on site

13th/14th August Shrewsbury Flower Show with SOGS garden and display

September 12th 2-4pm  Visit to Jo and Andy Jackson's garden, Kenley.  On the site of their former plant nursery, Jo and Andy have re-landscaped their 4 acre garden to become an orchard, wild flower meadow, garden pools, flower beds and vegetable/fruit garden.  They also keep bees.

October 3rd 2-4pm Autumn garden visit to SOGS members Nitas and Melvyn's garden, Kinnerley.  See how areas of the garden have been raised to cope with river flooding.
